Data Centers as Network Flexibility
Data centers strain power grids. But what if they provide flexibility instead of tying up capacity?

Strategic Infrastructure Partners (SIP) is an infrastructure developer spun out from Alphabet in 2019.
SIP developed a thesis for decentralized data centers that integrate into the energy system and provide grid flexibility. We have transformed this thesis into a concrete business model through our research and practical experience.
We assessed the technical feasibility, developed a value proposition for energy providers, and evaluated business models for data centers in the 5–20 MW range. Additionally, we analyzed the regulatory conditions in the USA and formulated a political positioning.
