From Energy Supplier to Data Center Operator
Energy suppliers provide electricity for data centers. But can they become operators themselves?

Vattenfall is a European energy company owned by the Swedish state.
We evaluated whether Vattenfall's entry into the cloud and data center market is viable – from market analysis to business model development and pilot operation.
We identified Vattenfall's competitive advantages: existing power plant sites, cost savings through waste heat utilization, and operational expertise in electrical and mechanical infrastructure. Based on this, we established a global partner network and built a pilot data center in Sweden – with complete waste heat recovery and electricity supply independent of the public grid.
