How does a federal state become a data center location? Strategy, site evaluation, and recommendations for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Economic Development Agency coordinates the economic development of the state.
We have developed a site selection strategy for data centers. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers surplus electricity, renewable energies, and a cool climate, but network and fiber optic connections remain a bottleneck.
To address this, we evaluated available land, energy and network connections, environmental regulations, and local IT demand. Based on this, we derived a site selection strategy and recommendations: energy park development, local demand stimulation, risk minimization, and establishment of internet exchanges.
