IDED (formerly known as SDIA) published the report "The Utility of the Future — Where Digital and Energy Infrastructure Combine" in September 2020. The report shows that data centers are among the fastest-growing energy consumers worldwide and analyzes the synergies between data center operations and energy infrastructure.

With CO₂ emissions from the digital economy at the level of the aviation industry, the report calls for leveraging the potential of digital infrastructure as a heat source and energy service provider. The full report is available for download as a publication.
