IDED supported as a co-signatory the 'AI Environmental Impacts Act' — a bill for standardized measurement of the environmental impact of AI systems.
IDED (formerly known as SDIA) signed the "Artificial Intelligence Environmental Impacts Act of 2024," introduced by US Senator Markey. The bill instructs NIST to develop standards for measuring the environmental impact of AI. Given the potential doubling of data center energy consumption by 2026 due to AI systems, transparency on ecological costs is urgently needed.
