PRESS RELEASE

The organization behind the world's leading sustainability certification for IT products — TCO Development — and IDED (formerly known as SDIA) are joining forces to push the boundaries for sustainability and transparency in cloud infrastructure.

The environmental impact of cloud services and data centers is growing as more IT systems move from local computers to the cloud. Resource-intensive services like AI further drive this trend. The collaboration between TCO Development and IDED began about a year ago with the aim of advancing more sustainable data center solutions. Now, the partnership is intensifying: The joint objective is to develop new criteria for cloud infrastructure as part of TCO Certified — with sustainability best practices for data centers as the standard for transparent and sustainable digital resources.

“TCO Development has been pushing the boundaries for more sustainable IT products for 30 years. By extending the certification scope to services, we will drive sustainability across industries and encourage service providers to adopt more sustainable practices," said Andreas Nobell, Development Manager at TCO Development.

“Reducing the environmental impact of IT is a strategic priority worldwide. As more organizations replace their own IT infrastructure with externally procured digital resources, ensuring environmental and social sustainability is crucial," said Max Schulze, CEO at IDED.

TCO Development has been certifying data center projects since 2019.
